A man named Nicodemus came to Jesus by night and said, "Lord, we know that you must be a teacher come from God, for no man can do the things that you do unless God be with him." Jesus began to explain to this man that he must be "born again" before he could enter the kingdom of God. What exactly did Jesus mean when he said this? How can we be "born again", or saved, and just what does that mean?
1. "All have sinned, and have fallen short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
We are all born with a sinful nature.
There is no possible way for mankind to achieve true righteousness apart from God.
Because of sin, we are hopelessly separated from God.
2. "For the wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23
The penalty for our sin is death. It is much deeper than just dying physically. It brings spiritual death and eternal separation from God.
3. "But the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus." Romans 6:23
"By grace are you saved through faith, that not of works, lest any man should boast"
Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it on His terms.
We must make a conscious decision and choose to accept God's invitation.
4. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us in that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners." Romans 5:8
Our salvation is not based on our righteousness but the righteousness of Jesus and the work that was completed at the cross.
God could never love our sin but He, without question, loves us even in the midst of sin.
5. "Whosoever confesses that Jesus is Lord and, that God has raised Him from the dead shall be saved...and all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." | Romans 10:9-13
The Bible says that, “today is the day of salvation”, and that, “anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” The decision is yours. Would you choose to receive Jesus as Savior and invite Him into your heart now? If so, pray this prayer out loud.
Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God; I believe that You died on the cross for my sins; I believe that You arose from the grave. Lord Jesus, I have been a sinner. Thank You for dying for my sins. I ask You now to forgive me. Come into my life now Lord and save me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Lead me and guide me daily and I will praise You for it in Jesus’ name.
Congratulations! You are now saved! Now you begin your new life in the family of God. It is important that you tell someone what has happened in your life. It is also important that you be baptized in water in obedience to God’s Word. Find a church where people are genuine about their faith and who love Jesus and be faithful to attend.
